….since I last wrote here 3 years ago, and I’m sure I’m not alone! A lot can happen, and has. Best news of all is that Dave finally got a kidney transplant after a six year wait. November 6th 2012 is a day imprinted in our memories when we got the call to drive to Bristol in the middle of the night. To say our lives have changed would be an understatement. Our life has returned to normal and we are forever grateful to the family who allowed this to happen.
Second big change is my job. I’m no longer a teacher and nothing could possibly persuade me to ever go back to it much as I loved being with the children. It’s not a good place to be these days and all the teachers I know, without exception, are hugely stressed and demoralised. So sad because it can be such a rewarding profession but unfortunately the powers that be seek to pile the pressure on more and more as each day goes by. So I got out by applying for what was initially a part time job in a gift and card shop. A few months later I was managing the shop full time and two years on I’m now responsible for buying the cards and stationery for both this shop and it’s sister shop a few miles down the road. Having been a lover of beautiful cards all my life, it’s my dream job and I still can’t believe how lucky I’ve been! The contrast between managing a very stylish and tasteful shop and tearing my hair out spinning plates in the classroom is extreme.
We’re still living in the same little cottage we moved into more than 5 years ago. Sadly Travis and Nim are no longer with us but Charley is and we also now have Sid, our very funny and lively 3 year old Springer.
I know this blog won’t be seen by anyone but the fact that this was a record of my life for the years that I regularly updated it has made me come to value it.
